Kami Rita Sherpa breaks his own world-record again, scales Everest for 24th time today

Dream Wanderlust | May 21 , 2019

Kami Rita Sherpa (49) summited Everest (8848m) for 24th time at 6:30am today, according to Nepal Official. He broke his own record which he had set six days ago after summiting everest on 15th May, 2019. He also made double ascent of Everest in a session for four times in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2019.

Binod Adhikari, a documentary filmmaker from Washington DC, is currently shooting for a documentary called 'Everest Man', on Kami's journey of nearly three-decade-long mountaineering career. Binod, alongside his 7-member crew, is filming his life as an accomplished mountaineer at Everest Base Camp since a month and a half, following Kami Rita's trail during the rotational ascents for acclimatisation and his 2 summits in last 7 days. American commercial television network NBC and New York City based newspaper New York Times are all set to distribute his project worldwide.

Binod and Kami are planning to fly back to Kathmandu on 25th May to start the post production of the documentary and looking forward to contest for an Oscar nomination with the film based on Kami's extraordinarily impeccable achievements.

Kami, hailing from Thame village in Solukhumbu district in Nepal, climbed Everest in 1994 for the first time. Since then, he has been climbing the mountain almost every year. Last year, he broke the Guinness World Record once he achieved the highest number (22, as of 16th May, 2018) of summits on the tallest mountain on earth. Apa Sherpa (59) and Phurba Tashi Sherpa Mendewa (48), who jointly held the record of 21 summits on Everest, had retired from mountaineering career.
