A three-member Polish-Pakistani team has concluded an exploratory expedition to the Ghujerab Mountains in the Karakoram of northern Pakistan after reporting first ascents of two previously unclimbed peaks at 5,270 m and 5,349 m.
The team comprised Polish adventurer Jakub Patecki, musician and climber Marcin Pawłowski, and Pakistani high-altitude climber Nazir Sadpara. Their main objective was a higher, approximately 6,059 m peak, but exploration of the surrounding valleys resulted in two other summits before deteriorating weather ended the expedition.

On 22 September, 2026, the three climbers reached an unnamed 5,270 m summit, which they believe had not previously been climbed. Announcing the ascent through social media, Patecki wrote:
“We managed to summit our first virgin peak, at 5,270 metres.”
Three days later, on 25 September, 2026, the team climbed another objective from the Yazpurs Valley. According to Pawłowski, they followed an eastern couloir and then the ridge, reaching the 5,349 m summit at 11:42 am.
“ We started from the Yazpurs Valley, climbing the eastern couloir and then the ridge.”
The expedition identifies the mountain as Peak 59 on maps of the Ghujerab region associated with Polish Himalayan cartographer Jerzy Wala and Janusz Majer. The team proposed the name RL9 in honour of Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski, who later congratulated the climbers on social media.

The team later turned its attention to its main objective: an unnamed peak of approximately 6,059 m. Worsening weather and increasing avalanche danger, however, forced the climbers to abandon the attempt and descend, bringing the expedition to an end with two reported first ascents.
The Ghujerab Mountains have a history of exploratory climbing, including expeditions to the Yazpurs valley system.
