20 Six-Thousanders in 23 Days: NIMAS Reports Remarkable Ladakh Expedition

A 20-member team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, led by Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, has reported an extraordinary series of 20 first ascents of peaks above 6,000 metres in Ladakh within 23 days.
The expedition explored the Chamser-Lungser, Gyama Nala and Chokula areas of the Ladakh Range, targeting remote and little-explored high-altitude objectives. The achievement was initially reported in early September and was subsequently officially announced by the Ministry of Defence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally flagged the expedition team in New Delhi on 25 September 2026. 

If confirmed peak by peak, the expedition would represent an unusually concentrated programme of exploratory mountaineering in the Indian Himalaya, with 20 summits above 6,000 metres reportedly climbed for the first time during a single 23-day expedition.
However, the publicly available reports do not yet provide the names, individual elevations, and coordinates of the 20 peaks, summit dates, climbing routes, technical grades, or summit parties. Dream Wanderlust therefore reports the achievement as announced by NIMAS and the Ministry of Defence, while awaiting the detailed expedition record.
