An Avoidable Tragedy

Satyarup Siddhanta | Jan 13 , 2017

What exactly happened on 21 May was a mystery to me till I read this article. My heart goes for everyone who was involved in the tragedy. I have to admit that this is one of the miraculous survivals on mountains. My Salute to Sunita Hazra for showing the grit, determination and courage where most of the people would have lost their nerve and would have given up. This was indeed brave. I got goosebumps reading the incident in detail.

It was devastating to read the ruthlessness on mountains - Reminds me of 1996 disaster and the fate of David Sharp. Well it is said that few climbers thought him to be resting and few thought he was already dead hence David died without any help ... but here the person was pleading for her life ... vocal tonic alone doesn't help! And hence my respect for Lesley went up many folds.

Mr Lesley, inspite of his limited climbing experience, rose up to the occasion, took up the leadership and literally risked his own life to save someone's life ... a leader was born! Lot of things to learn from him. Hats off ... I only wished Gautam Ghosh da, Paresh Nath da and Subhash Pal da got some help before it was too late.
