Four Climbers from Bengal summitted Mt. Elbrus

A team from Bengal reached the top of Mt. Elbrus (5642m), highest mountain in Europe, on 3rd September, 2017 at around 11am (local time). The team consisted of four climbers namely Malay Mukherjee, Kiran Patra, Sourav Sinchan Mandal and Abhijit Roy. Malay Mukherjee was the leader of the team.

Timeline of the expedition:
25th August - Malay Mukherjee, Kiran Patra, Sourav Sinchan Mandal and Abhijit Roy left Kolkata.

27th August - Acclimatisation walk flagged off from Cheget village.

28th August - Left for the process of acclimatization from Barrel Camp with all gear & Ice climbing practice.

29th August - Ice climbing & acclimatization was completed up to 4800m and returned back to the Barrel Camp. The weather was atrocious & blizzards were blowing around 60km per hour.

30th August – An attempt for the summit was made from Barrel Camp but had to be abandoned due to bad weather.

31st August and 1st September - The weather remained the same.

3rd September - They started their summit bid at around 1:30am. The weather conditions were fantastic. They reached the summit at 11am and returned to the Barrel Camp at 3 pm local time on that day itself.
